Texturing: generated maps are layer one, not the answer

Generating a physically correct PBR set from a description or a photograph is well established and genuinely useful. What it does not produce is art direction: a generator does not know that this crate is set dressing at ten metres and that one is a hero prop. These pieces cover what makes a generated set correct rather than merely convincing, and how a layer stack with masks driven by baked AO, curvature and cavity turns it into something you can direct.
